Balwen
The ancestry of the Balwen can be traced to one small area in Wales - the Tywi valley. Following the disastrous winter of 1947 the breed was nearly wiped out but now, watched over by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, numbers are increasing. It has a white blaze on its face (its name means ‘white blaze’ in Welsh), four white socks and a half white tail. The base colour can be black, brown or dark grey.

For felting:
The best of the Welsh breeds, Balwen felts fairly easily to a smooth finish.
