black welsh sheep

Black Welsh Mountain
The Black Welsh Mountain is an ancient breed – the only completely black sheep native to the UK. The fleece is the blackest of all the so-called ‘black’ breeds, although it is still sometimes known in Wales as ‘Cochddu’ (coch= red, du=black) meaning ‘brownish’.

For felting:
Black Welsh is softer than the other mountain breeds, but it’s still a bit ‘bouncy’ to felt. It’s worth the effort for the richness of the colour!
