Moral Fibre feltmaking batts are made from carefully selected fleece which is hand sorted before carding. Bought from local, well-managed flocks and processed in an eco-sensitive way, our fibres really are environmentally friendly. The carefull handing of boh the sheep and thier fleece is reflected in the fine quality of the fibres we offer.

Producing such wonderful batts is a time consuming process, but we think you'll agree that it's worth paying a little more for something so special.

Batts are ideal for feltmaking. They are a sheet of carded fibre measuring approximately 70cm x 100cm. The full thickness can be used for strong or sculptural pieces. Alternatively, the layers can be peeled off for more delicate items, saving time ‘laying out’. They are useful for making bags and slippers, especially with beginners and children - the batts are naturally even and so there are less likely to be holes or lumps in the finished felt. However much you buy, the batt will always be the same size – what will vary is the thickness.

The everyday range of 54 dyed merino tops is now also available. Sometimes when finest quality merino is dyed it loses its softness and is hard to felt. We have sourced a wonderful range from expert and long experienced dyers and our feltmaking customers are giving us excellent feedback.

We think you will love our new range of silk and cotton fabrics for making ‘nuno’ or laminated felt. Achieve all kinds of wonderful effects – browse the list for inspiration.

Our feltmaking machine produces a sheet of felt measuring 80cmx 110cm. If you’ve made a piece this size you will know how much time and effort you will save by buying your pre-felt ready made! You can decorate and finish fulling the felt at home and use it for bags, wallhangings or cushions. We can supply the pre felt sheets in all of our natural fibres. You pay a making charge of £10 per sheet plus the weight of the fibre you choose. This can be anything from 250g for a light sheet to 750g for a rug weight sheet. If you want make something really big, speak to us about making double or treble size sheets. This is just the kind of felt you would make by hand, full of character and texture.
